In Uttarakhand the tube drum Dhol is considered sacred. It has been the most ancient and popular instrument since generations, making it an integral part of the lives of the population there, their rituals, ceremonies and festivals. The Dhol is worshipped but the Dholi, the drummer, is discriminated. Jamandas belongs to the Dholi community. Because of the discrimination, many other drummers have given up. But Jamandas focuses on his goal: He practises diligently and with dedication and eventually earns recognition and fame for his art. When village temple completes fifty years and villagers decide to celebrate the Uttarayan festival at grand level. But a Dholi player, the most important individual required for the celebration is not available in village. After prolonged discussion temple committee decides to approach Jamandas. Due to his busy schedule Jamandas is unable to consider the villager’s request. Instead, he offers to train the villagers to play Dhol Damau …
