Children & Youth at the Museum

The Linden-Museum Stuttgart is the only state museum for ethnology in Baden-Württemberg. With its world-class collections from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia and Oceania, it is one of the most important anthropological museums in Europe. In addition to its permanent exhibitions, the museum regularly presents special exhibitions on changing themes that attract national attention.

In front of and behind the scenes, more than 60 employees work together to accomplish the museum’s many tasks.
As a state museum, the Linden-Museum offers attractive working conditions such as flexible working hours within a flexitime model, the possibility of mobile working and a subsidy for season tickets for public transport by the State of Baden-Württemberg (JobTicket BW).

We value diversity and therefore welcome all applications – regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion/belief, disability, age and sexual orientation and identity. Severely handicapped applicants (f/m/d) will be given priority consideration if they are equally qualified.

On this page we inform you about current job offers. Please feel free to apply!

Children in the museum

Around the museum with Tri!

Available in German only. The little triangle Tri invites children (8 to 12 years) and their friends, parents or grandparents to explore the permanent exhibitions in a playful way. What do the objects “tell”?

Perception exercises will focus on characters, works of art, everyday objects or imaginative details.
Together you will stroll through the exhibitions, gather sensory impressions and information, draw and play. Through fun and creative individual and group activities, you will be encouraged to talk about your ideas and thoughts.
The Tris research assignments are available free of charge at the Museum’s ticket office in the foyer.

The creative booklet for the exhibition visit was realized within the framework of LindenLAB and funded by the Anthropological Collections Initiative of the German Federal Cultural Foundation.

Media guide for children

With the free media guide, you can explore the museum’s permanent exhibitions with (fictional) caretaker children Mia and Paul. You will receive the same information as an adult, but in a child-friendly way, so you can share ideas and experiences during your family visit.

Guided tours, vacation programs, workshops

Can objects speak? If so, what would the artworks, everyday objects, or religious artifacts in the museum tell us?

We offer guided tours, vacation programs, and workshops for children ages 4 and up. The engagement with the objects allows for a deepening of knowledge about art, culture, the history of the collection and the world of life. New aesthetic experiences stimulate their own creativity and imagination.

Individual tours and programs can be booked for groups of children and young people. Public dates for children and families can be found in our calendar.

Kindergarten

During the tours, stories are told, games are played and puzzles are solved.

Learning through contact with original objects allows children to connect their world of experience with art, culture, and historical events.

Through playful and creative engagement with the objects and their stories, cognitive, social and emotional learning is encouraged.

The following tours are designed for children ages four to six.

Storytelling tour: Halima and her grandmother’s diary

Halima found her grandmother’s diary. It is full of memories of her life in Afghanistan. With Halima, we follow in her grandmother’s footsteps, seeing works of art, jewelry and clothing. In the bazaar we are surrounded by countless colors, smells and sounds. In front of the niche of the mosque, we look at the ornamental tiles and listen to the sounds of the muezzin. The journey through the exhibition is varied and dynamic, through scenic storytelling, tactile and movement games.

Science, Arts/Crafts

For whom? Recommended for kindergarten 4 years and older

Exhibition: Orient

The world through children’s eyes: living, learning and playing together

What were and are the points of contact between the objects in the collection and the children’s lives? Depending on the region and social structures, different things and narratives shaped and continue to shape their growing up. We will listen to stories, learn about festivals and games, and find out more about works of art or everyday objects. What can we learn from the past for the future?
