The Breadwinner tells the story of Parvana, an 11-year-old girl growing up under the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001. When her father is unjustly arrested, Parvana disguises herself as a boy to support her family.

The animated film produced by Angelina Jolie and based on the bestseller by Deborah Ellis won the UNICEF prize at the 2018 Vienna International Children’s Film Festival and the special prize at the Annecy Animation Film Festival. It can now be seen in cinemas in Germany for the first time.
