Letters for the Future

Exhibition by Karina Pino Gallardo

10 November – 1 December 2024

What is the future? How do we imagine it? Who will inhabit the world in 80 or 100 years? How can we have a dialog with a time when we will no longer exist? What will we bequeath to people who have not yet been born? The texts of women with a migration background living in Germany today become the focus of a political and sensitive reflection on the world they want to leave behind. They write letters to a tomorrow they do not know. We don’t know who will read them or whether they will be read at all: Humans, bots, aliens.

Every letter is a trace that is thrown forward, a possible archive object in a future museum of the past. Archives of fabrics, objects, words. Four personal pieces that are part of a larger mosaic. These women open their world to the world.

Heute. Jetzt.

The interdisciplinary Cuban artist Karina Pino was a fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2022/23. The letters were written by her as well as Nur Alamir, Marielvis Calzada and Elham Kanaani.
