Feature film by Wendy Bednarz

The dream of a better life for herself and her children prompted Ananda and her husband Gagan to leave India and move to a sandy town in the sweltering heat of the Arabian Gulf. When Ananda wakes up one day, a morning full of good prospects awaits her. She takes her children to the school bus as usual, where she sees them off with air kisses – only to discover a few hours later that her youngest daughter has been forgotten on that school bus and has suffocated from the heat. Armed with the ashes of her dead child, which she carries with her wherever she goes from now on, Ananda rises up against the “invisible” caste of society, demands accountability and refuses the customary blood money that is supposed to put a price on her daughter’s death.

US-American Wendy Bednarz’s debut film, shot in Abu Dhabi, depicts a mother’s struggle for the truth.

Yellow Bus celebrated its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2023 and screened at the Cairo International Film Festival 2023.
