Jiutamai

Presentation of the Jiutamai dance in the tradition of the Furusawa school

Jiutamai is a form of classical Japanese dance that developed under the influence of Noh theater. Today, Jiutamai is sometimes performed by geishas, often in tatami rooms. The dance is characterized by slow movements and delicacy.

The Furusawa School was founded as the successor to the Gotenmai Matsumoto School, which was passed on to Himeji Castle around 350 years ago. Sayuri Unou, Jiutamai teacher at Furusawa School, and her students present the results of their daily practice.

The presentation will take place in the tea house of the East Asia exhibition.
