Dokumentary film by Maja Tschumi

Milo, a strong-willed feminist, pretends to be a man in order to be able to move around Baghdad more freely. Khalili, a young and ambitious filmmaker, discovers the power of his camera as a weapon in the fight against the regime. In the aftermath of the 2019 revolution, Milo and Khalili are the faces, the eyes and the voices of an Iraqi youth relentlessly fighting for a better future.

Immortals gives an insight into the hopes and shattered dreams of a new generation that has known nothing but war since the US-led invasion.

Maja Tschumi on her film: “I was impressed by the incredible courage of the young activists who, despite overwhelming violence, are fighting for more justice, self-determination and a better future. We decided to make a film together to show a generation that is often overlooked by the rest of the world.”

Immortals premiered at the Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival in 2024 and screened at CPH:DOX Copenhagen, Sidney Film Festival, Melbourne Int. FF and Hot Docs Toronto, among others.
