Chanoyu: Japanese Tea Ceremony

With Yaeko Heinisch, Omotesenke Tea School Stuttgart

Omotesenke is one of the leading schools for the Japanese tea ceremony “Chanoyu”, which translates as “the way of tea”. It continues “Wabicha”, a form of ceremony that emphasizes modesty and unpretentiousness. This ceremony was perfected over 400 years ago by the tea master Sen no Rikyu.

Yaeko Heinisch, teacher at the Omotesenke tea school in Stuttgart, and her students provide a first insight into the ceremony: by preparing a bowl of tea made from powdered green tea, you not only learn about traditional Japanese hospitality, but also get closer to the core of Japanese culture.
