America Room

The America Room was designed for the museum’s educational activities. It is both thematically and regionally organized.

Objects from the prairie and plains cultures of North America document subsistence, including farming and hunting. Another display case is devoted to childhood and includes children’s clothing, a small teepee, and umbilical cord containers. The theme of religion is represented by objects from the American Southwest, the Hopi and Navajo cultures.

From the Amazon rainforest, objects tell of fertility rituals, hunting and fishing, and the cultivation and preparation of manioc. Feather ornaments, weapons, and household objects illustrate the themes.
