Feature film by Leila Abbas as part of the Arab Film Festival

There is little love between sisters Mariam, an exhausted mother of two, and Noura, who is single, works as a beautician, and is considered a disappointment to the family. However, they agree on one thing: when their elderly father dies and leaves a considerable sum of money in a savings account, the money should go to the daughters who took care of him – and not to their absent brother, who lives in America. However, the patriarchal structures of society make this difficult. During an eventful night in Ramallah, life begins to fall apart, but the women rediscover their sisterly bond. Laila Abbas’s first feature film reminds us that not all stories from Palestine are about political conflicts and that sometimes it is a challenge just to be a woman.

Thank You For Banking With Us celebrated its world premiere in 2024 in competition at the London Film Festival and subsequently screened in El Gouna (Best Director), São Paulo, Thessaloniki, and Los Angeles, among other places.
