Documentary film by Sepideh Farsi

In April 2024, Iranian filmmaker Sepideh Farsi begins making regular video calls to 25-year-old Palestinian photojournalist and poet Fatma Hassona. Farsi is constantly on the move, calling from different countries. Hassona is trapped in Gaza and has made it her mission to bear witness to the daily lives of Gaza’s residents. They talk about everyday life in Gaza, the longing for coffee and chocolate, the many friends and relatives Hassona has lost, and the constant fear of bombings.

Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk is a harrowing yet deeply human portrait, an intimate real-time account of resilience in the face of unimaginable suffering. Fatma Hassona and her family were deliberately killed by Israeli forces in their home in Gaza on April 16, 2025, just one day after it was announced that the film would premiere at Cannes. As of August 31, 2025, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) counted at least 197 journalists and media workers among the more than 63,000 people killed in Gaza since October 2023.
