Indian Film Festival Stuttgart: Documentary by Jakesh Dalal
In the age of technologisation and automation, regional skills are being lost and community-based crafts such as weaving are becoming increasingly rare in India. This experimental documentary film portrays the daily lives of handloom weavers in a remote Indian village. It shows their hard labour and the reasons why this activity and community are threatened with extinction. The camera witnesses the everlasting relationship between the material produced and the artisan.
